Friendship Music, the debut LP from NYC weirdo-thrashers Surfbort is out now via Cult Records/Fat Possum.  I co-produced/recorded/mixed/mastered this album at Thump and Studio Windows – with the exception of “Slushy” (recorded/mixed by Jonathan Krenik) and “Les Be In Love” (recorded/mixed by Chad Ubovich) – and it’s a blast of fun and noise that seeks to harness the mania of their live shows.  Surfbort is currently on tour across the USA with Black Lips and Iceage, before heading to Australia and Europe next month.  Pick up a copy when they stop through your city, and stream the record in its entirety below.

New Kind of Cross, the sophomore LP from Australian darkwave artist Buzz Kull, is coming out November 16 and Post Punk magazine premiered the video for first single “Avoiding the Light” to herald the announcement.  Like the debut Chroma, I mixed/mastered the album, as well as adding additional production to the songs.  If you live in Europe, make sure to catch Buzz Kull on tour next month!  In the meantime, check out the video below… New Kind of Cross comes out November 16 via Avant (EUR), Burning Rose (AUS), and Funeral Party (USA).

Gonzo NYC trash-punks Surfbort have just released a gonzo new video for “Trashworld”, the latest single of their upcoming Cult Records/Fat Possum debut Friendship Music.  Brooklyn Vegan shared the video, which was directed by Kansas Bowling, there’s a hilarious behind-the-scenes photo gallery on Alt Citizen, and a sweet write-up on Please Kill Me.  I co-produced/recorded/mixed/mastered Friendship Music at Thump Recording and Studio Windows earlier this year; the album comes out October 26.  In the meantime, stream the video below and check them out on tour around the US!

NYC-bred punk/metal/country/psych-rockers The Men have announced Hated: 2008-2011, out November 9 via Sacred Bones.  This compilation of their earliest work, ranging from their earliest demo through their proper debut Immaculada, touches upon much of the stylistic ground they would explore in more depth over the intervening years.  I transferred a plastic bag full of hand-dubbed cassettes, restored what I could, and remastered the collection at Studio Windows.  Read more about it on Consequence of Sound, and check out the 16mm video for “Ailment” below.

Beijing-based psychedelic blues duo Gong Gong Gong have announced their American debut single “Siren” (out November 9 via Wharf Cat).  I produced/recorded/mixed/mastered this along with their upcoming full-length Phantom Rhythm in fall 2017 – winter 2018 at Seaside Lounge, Doctor Wu’s (RIP), and Studio Windows. “Siren” is perhaps my favorite of the songs we tracked, and a wonderful introduction to this unique band.  Check it out via Stereogum, along with their upcoming tour dates supporting Parquet Courts, Flasher, and Bodega.

NYC goofball hardcore quartet Surfbort have announced the details of their debut full length Friendship Music, out October 26 on Cult/Fat Possum.  I co-produced/recorded/mixed/mastered this LP (and its accompanying singles) earlier this year at Thump Recording and my own Studio Windows.  Check out “Pretty Little Fucker” via Northern Transmissions, and don’t miss them on tour this fall with The Growlers, Amyl & The Sniffers, Black Lips, and Iceage.

“Avoiding the Light”, the new single from Australian darkwave artist Buzz Kull, is out now.  Post-Punk.com premiered the song, which is the first song from his upcoming sophomore LP, due later this year via Burning Rose (AU), Funeral Party (US), and Avant (EU).  I’m mixing, mastering and contributing additional production to these songs (as I did on his debut Chroma), and excited for the directions Marc and I have pushed this album.  Stay tuned.

Out Magazine shared a surreal new video for “Into Me” by NYC electro-pop trio Strange Names, along with an interview with the band.  “into Me” is one of my favorite songs off their new record Data, which was one of the last records that I mixed at Doctor Wu’s before its closure, and was mastered by Heba Kadry at Timeless Mastering.  Data is out now on Frenchkiss Records.

And garage-punk quartet Gnarcissists released their debut single “We All Just Wanna” via Alt Citizen.  It’s the first song from their first EP, which I’m mixing/mastering this summer, and which was recorded by Lucas Carpenter (our wonderful assistant at Studio Windows).  Check it out:

Endless Scroll, the debut album by NYC art-punk quintet Bodega, is out now on What’s Your Rupture.  The album has already met wide-spread acclaim, from BBC6 playing the record in its entirety and naming it Album of the Day, to Rough Trade naming it Album of the Month, to glowing reviews in DIY (5/5 “Streamlined and minimal but bursting with intelligence, humour and ideas, BODEGA are the real deal.”), Village Voice (“the summer’s ultimate Brooklyn band”) , NME (4/5,  The Independent (4/5, “It’s a fantastic debut from one of the most exciting new bands around”), and many more.  It’s a pleasure to see so many people so excited about the band and this album, and I’m proud to have helped bring it to fruition.  Pick up your copy now and stream it below.
