ABOUT:

Jonathan Schenke has worked on a wide range of projects – including both narrative and documentary, short-form and feature-length programs – for broadcast, Internet, and theatrical screenings.  His work has been shown and awarded at Sundance, South By Southwest, AFI, and other film festivals.  He has worked on advertisements for Intel, Cole Haan, FILA, TiVo, and others.  Jonathan has also done sound design for installations, software, and video games.  His experience includes sound editing and mixing, sound design, ADR/voice recording, restoration/clean-up, score mixing, and score composition.

 

NARRATIVE:

In and Out of Control, dir: Emir Eralp (2016) [score]

A silent short film by fashion photographer Emir Eralp, featuring the legendary dancer Lutz Förster and a score by Eaters.  The film premiered on Nowness, and has been featured and awarded at film festivals around the world.


 

Bluebeard, dir: Rachel Garber Cole and Kimberlee Venable (2016) [sound editing, sound design, sound mix]

A modern adaptation of the French fairy tale of the same name, this surreal short follows  a young woman after she moves in with her partner.  Premiered at Bushwick Film Festival 2016.


 

Mom Died, dir: Robin Comisar (2016) [sound editing, sound design, sound mix]

A short film centered around a family whose members are dealing with their grief in wildly different ways.  Premiered at Bad Water Film Festival 2016.


 

Childs’ Playhouse: Hospital Head Doctor, dir: Dean Fleischer-Camp (2016) [sound editing, sound design, sound mix]

A short film by Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer-Camp.  The stories were written and performed by children, and portray a doctor and his team treating a patient with butterflies in her stomach.  A Vimeo Staff Pick.


 

This Won’t Hurt a Bit, dir: Mary Harron (2014) [sound editing, sound design, sound mix]

A short film by Mary Harron (director of American Psycho, I Shot Andy Warhol and The Notorious Betty Page) for We the Economy, a series produced by Morgan Spurlock and Paul G. Allen.  The short is a black comedy about the intricacies and misdirection of the American healthcare system and its effect on the average person.


 

The Poisoner, dir: Chris Hefner (2014) [sound editing, score mix, sound mix]

The second feature film by Chicago director/artist Chris Hefner.  It’s a surreal narrative film about a woman entering a marriage with the explicit arrangement with her husband to slowly poison him, featuring an original score by Daniel Knox.


 

Last of the Great Romantics, dir: Duncan Skiles (2014) [sound editing, sound mix]

A narrative feature film by Duncan Skiles.  It’s a theatrical rom-com starring Ben Ramaeka as a heart-broken romantic, featuring a hilarious Kumail Nanjiani as the local corner-store clerk and the closest thing he has to a friend.  Winner of Best Narrative Film at Macon Film Festval 2014.

A series and a short film by Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer-Camp.  The series ran on Jash (the Youtube channel run by Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Tim & Eric, and Reggie Watts) and the short film was an official selection at Sundance, AFI, and Rooftop Film Festival.

A short film by Kyle Waszkelewicz about a relationship between a young woman and a deaf man, scored by Wild Leaves.


 

The Fuzz, dir: Duncan Skiles (2013) [sound editing, ADR, sound mix]

A film by Duncan Skiles about the rise of a puppet kingpin of the criminal underground and the straight-laced puppet/alcoholic human police partners who work to bring him down.  The Fuzz premiered at South By Southwest 2013.

An abstract documentary chronicling Montana Simone’s travels throughout the Middle East, Mediterranean, and West Europe.  The film was conceived as part of an interactive installation, which premiered at IDIO Gallery.


 

Who is Gil Scott-Heron?, dir: Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard (2014) [sound editing, sound mix]

A documentary about the poet/musician Gil Scott-Heron by Ian Forsyth and Jane Pollard (the BAFTA-nominated directors of 20,000 Days on Earth).  Not so much a biography as a memorial, with people close to him remembering and relating stories about their late, great friend.


 

Guest House Helios, dir: Ryan Jeffery (2013) [sound editing, sound mix]

An impressionistic documentary following the day-to-day activities around this Croatian resort during its final season of operation.


 

Married… And Counting, dir: Allan Piper (2012) [sound editing, sound mix]

A documentary narrated by George Takai about two men who travel the United States to get married in each state that will allow it.

A part stand-up/part narrative comedy special for Comedy Central by Reggie Watts and Duncan Skiles.  I also mixed and mastered the accompanying CD.


 

Food Party: Season 2, created by Thu Tran for IFC (2010) [sound design, additional voice acting, sound editing, sound mix]

The second season (20 episodes) of Food Party for IFC.  An absurdist comedy with puppets and cardboard sets that was tangentially related to food.  This season was edited by Dean Fleischer-Camp (of Marcel the Shell and Catherine), and directed by John Lee (Wonder Showzen), Stephen Probert, Christian Simmons, and Zachariah Durr.
