Maxband – the indie-rock quartet featuring members of Parquet Courts and A Beacon School – have released their debut full-length album On Ice. Following press in Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, and So Young Magazine, the album shows the group twisting their tight grooves into interesting shapes. We recorded this at Living Rooms in Ridgewood, Queens, and I mixed it at Studio Windows, with Mikey Young doing the mastering. It’s rare that I’ve laughed so hard and still gotten so much done as we did while making this record, and I love how simultaneously catchy, goofy, and weird these songs turned out. Maxband On Ice is out now via Holm Front Records.

NYC punks Native Sun are back with the brand new single “Too Late”. Praised by So Young Magazine as having “an enviable, electric attitude”, the track is the first of a new batch of songs the band has been working on over the past year. “Too Late” was produced by Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, Rival Schools) and recorded by Jeremy Snyder at Studio G; additional production and recording was done by Rob Guariglia at Meserole Sound Studios; with final overdubs, mixing and mastering done by me at Studio Windows. “Too Late” is out now on Grand Jury Music, more coming soon!

NYC alt-rock quintet Slow Fiction are back with “Apollo”, their first single with the taste-making UK label So Young Records. ”Apollo” was featured in The Line Of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, Alt Citizen, and others, and received with universal praise. The track was recorded at Figure 8 Recording and mixed/mastered at Studio Windows last summer, and captures a lot of what I feel makes this one of the most exciting new bands in NYC. “Apollo” is out now via So Young Records, with more coming soon!

Maxband (featuring members of Parquet Courts and A Beacon School) is back with “Nothing’s Changed”, the opening track from their upcoming album “On Ice”. ”Nothing’s Changed” was featured on Stereogum, So Young Magazine, and others, with So Young writing “the single showcases a newfound sense of community within the band, with each member having the chance to spotlight their own talents.” Well said! The album was recorded last year at Living Rooms and mixed at Studio Windows, and mastered by Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring). Maxband On Ice is out April 5 via Holm Front Records.

Adam Lytle (Wild Leaves/Quicksilver Daydream) has released his debut solo record This Is The Fire. The album is full of lush ballads anchored by nylon string guitars, gorgeous string arrangements, and impressionistic narratives. It was written & produced by Adam, and features string arrangements by Trey Pollard, drums & percussion by Ryan Jewell, and guitar & bass by Cameron Kapoor, James Preston, and Scott Colberg. This is the third record that Adam & I have worked together, and he trusted me to shape the arrangements as I mixed & mastered the album at Studio Windows. This Is The Fire a truly beautiful record, and is available now on limited edition vinyl & cassette.

Electronic explorer Arp has released “The Enormous Room” as part of the most recent Longform Editions. I’ve been a fan of Arp for years and am an ardent follower of Longform Editions, so I was thrilled to be asked to record the vocals for this piece at Studio Windows. Alexis/Arp says of the song “I imagined monolithic set designs, bold, sculptural clothing, and lots of movement. A kind of dream-play.” It has a Kitchen/Downtown NYC vibe to it, and is also perfect for puttering around the kitchen in the morning. Check it out!

Austin-based dance punks Font have released their new single “It”. The group has played with some hyped bands since their formation last year (CHAI, bar italia, Water From Your Eyes), and Brooklyn Vegan calles this new song “a banger that might remind some of the mid-’00s post-punk revival era”. The track was produced by the group and recorded at Fifth Street Studios in Austin, Tx by Nick Joswick; I mixed & mastered it at Studio Windows in Brooklyn. It rips! “It” is out now, and hopefully much more coming soon.

Several Songs About Fire is the sophomore solo record from A. Savage of Parquet Courts. Produced by John Parish and featuring contributions from Jack Cooper (Modern Nature, Ultimate Painting) and members of Cate Le Bon‘s band, this album finds Savage refining the types of songs & arrangements he has explored on his debut solo record Thawing Dawn and in Parquet Courts’ more narrative-based songs. I did additional recording for the album at Studio Windows (including the vocals for lead single “Elvis In The Army”), and love hearing my friend continue to expand his incredible discography in exciting directions. Several Songs About Fire is out now on Rough Trade Records.

“Take-Out Menu” is the newest single by Maxband (featuring members of Parquet Courts and A Beacon School). It comes from a batch of songs that we recorded earlier this year at Living Rooms and mixed at Studio Windows, and was mastered by Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring). This song hits the same poppy/punky sweet spots that their first two EPs did, but the album goes off into many stranger & darker places than this – hopefully we’ll get to hear more from it soon! “Take-Out Menu” is out now.

Gift Horse – my new project with Matthew Hord (Pop. 1280, Fine Place, Running) – has released our debut album Cultural Payout. Written & recorded across 2022 at Studio Windows, the album dives deep into leftfield beats and hardware electronics across the span of six sprawling songs. Electronica.org describes it as “an enigmatic journey through hallucinatory landscapes”, and Brooklyn Vegan writes the songs mix “rolling hip hop beats with Morricone-esque cinematic vistas”. I’ve know Matthew for around 15 years, our bands have shared bills together many times, and I’ve produced records for multiple projects he’s been in, but this is the first time we’ve made music together. Like many of my favorite records, this one was made without preconceptions and simply for the sake of playing music together. Our record release show will be October 6 at Union Pool, with James K and Auscultation (aka Golden Donna). Cultural Payout is out now via Husky Pants Records (Ryley Walker) – stream & purchase a copy of the cassette at Bandcamp.
